Ideas for a Sand Table

in: Education

Building a sand table at home is not something unattainable. The ideas can be framed with your basic skills. A sand table is a little larger or similar in size to a coffee table. You can utilize the unused table frames for this purpose. The table top will contain sand and water of a certain depth. The table top resembles a reservoir having boundaries so that the water doesn’t leak out. Raise the sides of the table by attaching plywood of half foot to the four sides of the table. Seal the corners with an adhesive to allow retention of water. You can also make the reservoir by raising cemented walls from all the sides. This will make the table heavy but it cannot be moved from one place to another frequently. Now fill the space with sand and pour water till the brim of the reservoir. Make sure the height of the table is accessible by your kid and he doesn’t have to stand on his toes to play with the sand and water. One of the simplest way to make water and sand table is, keeping a tub filled with sand and water on the top of the table.

Once the sand and water table is ready you can apply the themes on it. Your kids can learn and play simultaneously when you implement playful as well as educational themes. One of the most common sand table ideas for preschool is incorporation of maths and alphabet games. How do you do it? Get numerical and alphabet blocks from stores and let them float on water. In the process of learning, teach the alphabets and numerical so that they can recognize them the next time. Hide the blocks in the sand and ask them to find out. This way they will develop the potential to learn quickly. Supply them with colorful paper for making boats and ask them to float on the water. This activity is a source of immense entertainment for children.

You can also provide them various kinds of floating toys and water bikes. The water bike racing will be very entertaining for them. Girls usually love to play with floating dolls on water tables. Creating a wave pool by performing different kinds of experiments in the pool is a great idea. Get a bottle of spray, water colors, straws and small pebbles. Now demonstrate the response of water when interfered with these substances. For example, explain to them how colors mix when sprayed on or diluted with water. Show them the formation of ripples when water is blown with a straw. Hide the pebbles in the sand and ask them to find out. If the sand table is a dry one i.e. devoid of water, then your kids will enjoy making sand crafts and drawing on sand. These were some of the creative play ideas on a sand and water table. Baby Safety While At Home

Your home may be your safe heaven, but here is where most accidents are waiting to happen. In order to ensure that your child is well protected from the possible dangers within your home, go through the following safety tips. •Never leave the baby unattended, especially when he’s in the turning over phase at the age of 3 to 4 months. He could tumble out of a bed.
•When in the crib, make sure that the handle bars rise above the head of the baby. This way, he won’t be able to climb over them. Also go through these safety regulations for baby cribs.
•It’s understandable that you’ll be exhausted while taking care of a new born baby and managing the home, but try not to sleep very soundly when your baby is around. This will come as a natural instinct, but it’s better to have someone monitor the baby while you rest.
•While holding the baby, always give his head and neck the support of your arm.
•Keep your floors clean of spills and toys scattered around to prevent tripping and falling.
•If you are very tired, don’t walk around holding your baby. Sit and rock your child. It is a much safer option.
•When letting children hold the baby, make sure that they are seated in a chair that he or she is comfortable in. Don’t let a child hold the baby while standing and NEVER let a child walk around with the baby.
•Keep a minimal distance between yourself and the baby. Don’t sleep too close to the baby as it could lead to accidental suffocation.
•If you have a pet, keep it away from the baby.
•Conceal all electrical cords and make sure that any heavy appliances and items are fastened to their stands.
•Use a baby monitor to keep an eye and ear on your baby if you are busy in another room.
•Use child locks on all small doors and windows that your baby can reach.
•Childproof all electrical sockets that are within the reach of the toddler.
•Keep all sharp and pointed objects away from the areas that the child is taken in.
•The changing table must be flat and smooth, and should not have any holes or indentations.
•When your baby begins to use a walker, make sure that he is supervised at all times. Don’t let him use it near open doorways, stairs or areas that are wet.
•When giving toys to your baby, give only those that are appropriate for his age. Toys with small parts are a complete no-no for babies and toddlers. Continue Reading »

Day Care Children 4X More Likely to Get Sick

Some progressive daycare and private pre-schools around the country are doing something to lessen these odds. These facilities are providing a healthy environment of clean, purified air inside their buildings, using a unique and safe technology to eliminate many of the harmful things in the air that children breathe, as well as up to 99.9% of mold and bacteria on surfaces. They realized that they can do something to stop the spread of many illnesses.

The results are healthier, livelier, more alert infants and children that are more responsive to learning and a healthier, happier staff. These schools have also seen fewer sick days for both children and staff. Children can contract or trigger existing respiratory ailments such as asthma, allergies, colds and chronic fatigue created by the air they breathe indoors and by being in close contact with one another. And, children are spending almost 90% of their time indoors. Pollen and air pollution and smog are all present outdoors during those Red Alert days. But the fact is that we have effectively sealed our children inside with some very harmful things in the process of conserving energy. IAQ, or Indoor Air Quality, is a key concern these days.

Many of the major health agencies, including the EPA, World Health Organization and CDC are concerned about the quality of our indoor air. Indoor air pollution consists of three major categories:

• Particulates- are dust, dander, soot, pollen and smoke particles
• Gases/Odors- can include toluene, benzene, formaldehyde, ethyl benzene, styrene, chloroform, acetone, etc. that are released from furniture, insulation and cleaning chemicals and insect sprays, not to mention pollution particles dragged in on our clothes. Many of these are carcinogenic.
• Microbes- are bacteria, germs, viruses, fungi, spores and mold.

Mechanical filters, even HEPA filters, can clean the air of most of the particulates, but they are “passive” and the air must be pulled through a device to treat it. In addition, these filters have to be cleaned or replaced frequently and can be quite expensive. If they are serviced frequently they can even be the source of contaminants themselves. Scented candles and sprays can eliminate some of the odors, but not the harmful gases, and, once again are local fixes. HEPA filters and electrostatic filters that are called purifiers are not effective in removing odors. Simple UV duct probes have had limited success in this area. None of these can kill microbials or mold/mildew. Disinfectant sprays and cleaning can treat areas for a short period of time, in an immediate area, but the problem can return. Many public facilities mistakenly think that they are solving the problem of mold and mildew by having their carpets periodically steam cleaned, but are simply covering it up with a fragrance and are actually providing additional moisture that can accelerate mold growth. Acai Berry Diet, The Miracle Diet

There are certain fruits that can easily be tagged with a super-food
label due to their power to make major changes to our overall health
& recovery of the body as a result of excess food. acaibestbuy.com/">Acai Berry is
one of these superheroes. It contains beneficial substances and many
nutritionists place it above yogurt, legumes and fruit consumption. Health Define

Currently, acai fruits may be found as ingredients in various foods
such as ice cream, juices, energy bars and even red wine, but in small
quantities. Among the basic properties of the acai fruit we can mention its antioxidant value, thus helping to regenerate our body and prevent aging. Also,  it is a powerful anti-infective agent, preventing infections and not least,  a good accelerating agent of human metabolic activity, thus a great help in any diet.

Acai contains substances such anticianina & anthocyanina, hence
the intense red color, and it is rich in dietary fiber (helps the
digestive system to work properly) . It is very beneficial to the
circulatory system helping your hearth keep its optimal rate activity. Acai’s ability
to remove toxins from the body was verified in laboratories confirming
that it also helps the immune system become more resistant to disease
due to oleic acid and other beneficial substances.

Although a small fruit and seemingly insignificant, acai brings many
long term benefits for our health. It can be used both as an ingredient
in food and naturally, as part of a regular breakfast. Most of the
times, you will find acai in the form of fruit juice (can be purchased
at stores or pharmacies across the country). However, it is better to check before buying this type of product.  Some vendors add ingredients produced in the laboratory or too much sugar.

Acai Berry Diet
seems to be among the most popular diets found until today. First
adopted by the Brazilian people, the  foundations were established by
simply consuming this type of fruit. They contain plenty of antioxidants
and give your body a lot of energy, so today you will find supplements
that contain some extracts from these Acai Berries.

What is acai berry diet?

Acai Berry was in fact a type of diet that involved daily
consumption of these South American Berries. Later, it was found that
the combination of these berries with a diet rich in fruits, vegetables
and some animal protein (eggs, poultry, fish, milk) not only helped
reducing weight, but also maintained a good health.

Acai Berry Diet Benefits

Because it is a high-energy diet and also promotes fat mobilization
and burning of fat stores, its benefits not only reflect on the figure:

Proper Baby Shower Etiquette

in: Tips

The rules of baby shower etiquette are changing and being bent, but there are certainly some rules that you should still abide by. Here are some of the basic rules of baby shower etiquette:

· Who should hold the shower? Traditionally, friends or co-workers have held baby showers, but it is becoming more and more common for close family members to, as well. The rule of thumb is, if you want to throw a shower, go for it! This applies to everyone except for the parents to be.

· Should fathers and men be invited to the shower? Traditionally, baby showers have been held for women, but there is no baby shower etiquette rule that states that men cannot come, too. Fathers enjoy opening presents, too! Of course, if you do decide to invite males, try to stay away from games that are too cutesy that they may not like. Try to think of foods and activities that both men and women would enjoy.

· How should I invite guests? It is becoming more and more acceptable to invite guest via telephone or e-mail. Of course, the best method is still a written-out invitation sent via the US mail service. You can be sure that people will appreciate this method better, and the invitation itself can serve as an extra reminder as to when the special day is.

· When should I hold the shower? Baby shower etiquette generally dictates that the shower should be held 1-2 months before the baby is due. This gives the parents enough time to go out and shop for important items that they did not receive at the shower. You do not want to hold the shower too close to the due date, in case the baby comes early. You may instead decide to hold a “welcoming” baby shower one to three weeks after the birth of the baby (just make sure that you give the guests enough notice! You obviously will not know when this sort of shower can be held until the baby is actually born). This sort of shower is great for parents who did not want to know in advance the sex of their baby… guests will know whether to bring gifts for a boy or a girl. It is also good to hold a “welcoming” baby shower so that family and friends who are coming into town for the birth of the baby can attend, as well.

· Is it ok to sign up for a baby registry? Old rules of etiquette would say that it is a definite no-no to tell your guests what to bring (besides assigning a certain theme). But baby gift registries are becoming more and more useful and more and more popular. Go ahead and sign up for a baby gift registry. You can include a note in the invitation that says where you are registered, but it looks best if you can get the word around by word of mouth. Be sure that the cost of items covers a wide range. You can also propose that guests chip in for one, larger item.

· Do I still need to send out Thank-Yous? You most definitely need to send out thank-you notes for all of your gifts. While you are opening them at your party, ask someone to be a scribe and write down everything that you get as you open it. A host may even choose to print out in advance a list of the addresses of all of the guests, then the gift that each person gave can be written right next to the name, making it easier for the mother to send out a proper thank you note. Also, another benefit to getting thank-you notes out early is that a mother will be much to busy once the baby is born. Also, a thank-you note and even a small token of thanks should be given to the host of the shower.

· What should I give the guests? Part of good baby shower etiquette is making sure that the guests have a good time. After all, they deserve to have a little fun as payment for the great gift that they are giving. What you give the guests does not matter so much as the fact that you should give something. Be sure to have plenty of food and good drinks at the shower. You can send each guest home with an additional party favor as well. You can also have some lovely gifts as prizes for baby shower games.

· Should I have a shower for a second baby? It is perfectly fine to have a shower for a second baby. After all, you are going to need a few new items. Of course, proper etiquette states that only very close friends and family members should be invited to the shower of a second child. You can also invite people who did not attend any showers for the first child.

A Close Look at a Baby Bouncer

in: Tips

Bouncer seats are a perfect way to keep your baby nearby even when they are sleeping. When they are awake, they love taking in everything that is going on around them in the room. Here are some important things that you should know about a baby bouncer.

Bouncers work for babies from birth up to approximately six months or up until they reach the maximum weight limit for your particular model. Different models are made for different weights. The maximum weight is usually between 18 and 30 pounds.

Most bouncers are made with a lightweight metal frame. There are some that are made of plastic, and at least one model has a birch wood frame. They are then covered with a padded, cloth covered pad that can be easily removed for washing.

The back of the bouncer tilts slightly upward while supporting the baby’s back. It lifts him up just enough that he can see everything that is happening around him. Some babies appear to enjoy taking their nap better in the bouncer than in their crib.

Some of the nicer models have a padded play bar that fits across the bouncer or a mobile that attaches over the baby’s head. Both of these additions are especially nice as the baby gets older and more active. They love to look at these brightly colored objects, kick at them and try to grab them.

If you are considering purchasing a baby bouncer and a swing, you might want to think again. The bouncer is smaller, takes up less space and can easily be taken anywhere that you go. One of the best ways to decide which is best is to put your baby in both of these at a friend’s house or in a church nursery and see which one he prefers.

Most babies only use a bouncer for five to six months. After that they are big enough that they will enjoy being placed on a blanket on the floor where they can move around and scoot. This is important because this is where your baby will learn to crawl.

The most important thing that you will need to take into consideration is your baby’s safety. Make sure that the bottom of the frame is wider than the seat itself. When you are looking at it in the store, press on it from different angles to make sure that it will not tip over from any direction.

Since these items are used for a relatively short period of time, you may want to see if you can find one used. You can get them for at least 50% less than what a brand new one will cost. Check around at yard sales, in thrift stores and consignment shops and watch your local sales paper. If you choose to buy a used bouncer, be sure that it is strong and sturdy, as your babys safety should be your top concern.

A baby bouncer is a great way to keep your baby entertained while you take care of your daily chores. He will enjoy being where he can watch you moving around him. The best thing is that the bouncer is comfortable enough that he can fall asleep right where he is at whenever he gets tired.

Baby Gym – An Important Developmental Toy for Newborns

in: Tips

Play mats and gyms are an excellent way to offer up fun for babies who cannot sit or stand on their own yet. For newborns, the mats and gyms help with lifting heads up and reaching to perfect the “pincher grasp.” Some gyms come with the contrasting black and white patterns that also help with eye development. As infants get older, these baby gyms will teach them about cause and effect, phonics, and music. They are perfect gifts for baby showers or holidays such as birthdays and Christmas.

As infants develop muscles and eye-hand coordination, activity mats and baby gyms are an excellent way to promote healthy minds and bodies. These gyms are a great way to incorporate the all important “tummy time” and for bonding with your child as well. The gyms not only give them an opportunity to develop their minds, but also help them learn important skills they will carry with them through a lifetime. Below are a few ideas for gyms from major brands such as Baby Einstein and Lamaze.

Lamaze Space Symphony Motion Gym

Lamaze is a well known brand that makes quality learning products. This gym has an outer space theme with a sun on the mat, which encourages “tummy time.” The bars of the gym carry the outer space theme along with rocket ships, stars, planets, and monkeys dressed in space suits. The toys are detachable for portable fun. This gym has music with toys that move to the music.

Baby Einstein Seek and Discovery Gym

Baby Einstein is another great brand that makes quality educational toys for newborns up to preschoolers. This gym comes with a soft mat for your child to lie down while looking at bright colors, whimsical characters, and toys to hold their attention span. This play mat will encourage newborns and older infants to explore and discover ways to interact.

The Spin and Explore Sea Gym

The Spin and Explore Sea Gym is a newer gym that was developed by pediatricians. The gym provides a new way to introduce vital developmental phases for newborns. The gym is shaped like a surfboard and has enchanting sea creatures such as turtles, fish, and dolphins swimming around to keep baby occupied. Children can also spin on their stomachs on the detachable surfboard to build tummy and neck muscles. Other features include a starfish shaped mirror, crinkly flaps, rattlers, and squeakers to further enhance a baby’s playtime.

These are just a few examples of baby gyms that are available. Most gyms offer opportunity for “tummy time” and stimulate infants with music, colors, and patterns. The gyms are an essential toy for any nursery, as these gyms will help develop skills that will last a lifetime.

Zero Point Field Energy

What is the zero point field?

It is theorized that the zero-point field exists in a vacuum or empty space at a temperature of absolute zero. At absolute zero Kelvin, all the heat or thermal radiation is absent. Under this condition, the background vacuum energy is zero point or reference for all processes.

Theoretically, Zero Point Field against the sea of electromagnetic radiation that is homogeneous and isotropic, or the same in all directions.

Practical implications of the zero-point field

In the zero point, or, ground state, the system is at a low energy state. The residual energy in the ground state, is called Zero Point Energy (ZPE).

The exciting thing about ZPE that in 1913 the German physicist and Nobel Prize winner Otto Stern, along with Albert Einstein assumed that this, residual energy can be used as an alternative form of energy.

Just imagine the possibilities if we could use a surprising amount of free energy and use it to power our homes and industries.

Zero point field Debate

The free energy suggested the existence of the zero point field, but there are a number of issues arising from this theory, such as:

Does free energy really exist?
Can it be used?
How much will it cost to use?
It is as abundant and efficient as its proponents claim?

Physics in research laboratories and universities are exploring the production of this vast reservoir of free energy. This may be the main source of alternative energy future.

Zero field Point and Free Energy device

Practical application of techniques of zero point field, and ZPE is the free energy of the device or devices for the collection and transfer of energy from a source that science is not yet known. We can also think of it as a device that collects energy at no cost. Free energy device is a vivid example of the legendary perpetual motion machine.

For centuries, people have tried to invent a perpetual motion machine, or machine which, once switched on, continues to behave forever without energy input. The machine will never run out of energy.

No such machine exists today, but it does not mean that it’s impossible. Perhaps future technology will be able to use the free energy at zero field. This is certainly something that everyone is looking forward to find out.
